Round production

A well-rounded thing

At the beginning of each coin and medal is a blank, a so-called round blank. Later, the quality of the minting and thus also of the medal or coin depends on its quality. The production of the blank includes the punching, the edge upsetting and the polishing of the blank. The mint has its own extensive blank production to always ensure the best quality on the one hand and flexibility on the other.

Coin blanks round production The starting material for the production of rounds are so-called coils. These are long strips of the material selected for the coins or medals. Our customers can choose between different precious and base metals.

First, the materials are fed into a die-cutting machine. A roll stand then ensures that the material strip runs through the die cutter in a controlled manner. The punching dies are crucial in this process. They are selected or manufactured to fit each individual type of blank. Each tool consists of several sharply ground cylinders whose counterparts are holes through which the blanks are pressed.

After punching the blanks, the next step is edge swaging. Here, the edge is now designed round, cylindrical or in another shape. Depending on the customer's wishes, the blanks can also be provided with an edge label.

The blanks that have now been shaped are now taken to the final step of blank production. The blanks are cleaned and polished at the same time to achieve the best possible optical result for you. It is important to optimally prepare the surface for the embossing that is still to come.
